Columbus Stand Up! joined organizations across Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, and California to launch a new regional coalition fighting back against rising utility bills and corporate profiteering by AEP.
Ahead of AEP’s Q1 earnings call, coalition members released a joint press statement calling attention to the company’s repeated rate hikes, record profits, and massive CEO compensation package – all while working families struggle to keep the lights on.
Together with partners including Green Workers Alliance, United Ratepayers, People’s Action Institute, Virginia Organizing, and WV Citizen Action, we are organizing ratepayers and workers across the region to demand:
- Affordable electricity rates
- Accountability from monopoly utilities
- Investments in renewable energy
- An end to repeated rate hikes enabled by state utility commissions and Governors
This coalition is just getting started. We’re building regional power to challenge utility monopolies and fight for an energy system that puts people over profits.
